converting/importing .skp files

Hello, the name is Joiderpus, Ivan Joiderpus.

I was wondering if anyone managed to sort out a way to convert .skp files or import them into autodesk inventor.

Many thanks.

Until then I remain: Ivan Joiderpus

Inventor does not support importing of Google Sketchup .skp format. There is an addin for sketchup that allows you to export to stl file but then you would need another convertor to go from stl to something Inventor can open.

Really? No plug ins exist? hella lame

What about a .skp converter, after all why would they go to the trouble of making a site with free meshes if they were going to make them incompatible with everything.

Good marketing plan, free site, sell the plug-in

The free models are for use in Sketch Up. Why spend countless extra time offering a compatible cad format when very little will actually use it. Demand and money makes the world go around.

Rhino (v4) has an option to open skp files, but we were not able
to get it to work with a skp file a customer sent us recently.

I downloaded a skp file of a lamp and read it in to Rhino,
worked fine. Model is all polygon meshes though, and needs
conversion to be able to output iges, etc.

It apears the SketchUp is a mesh modeler. Maybe someone who knows will
confirm.
Rhino will open at least the one sample I tried. You will need to do a mesh
to nurbs conversion in Rhino in order to open in IV.
The results will be marginally usable, at best though.

the only plugin i could find was just under 200 dollars, seems a lot for 3 mgs but supply and demand and all that.

This will eventually be exported to mastercam for use in a 3 axis mill, the search goes on.
