Converting IDW to DWG doesn't work

Hi Guys,

I cannot convert IDW to DWG in Inventor 2013. When I go save copy as and select DWG file format from the drop down menu the Options button greys out. The options button will work for every other format but Acad DWG.

What have I done so far:

Installed Update 4 for SP2

Run re-install from my control panel

It seems very strange. All of my collegues don't have the same problem.

Thanks for your advice

is the translator loaded? Go to Tools > Add-ins > Translators tab and make sure the entry labeled as "Translator: DWG" is actually loaded. It should state"Automatic / On Demand". HTH

Hmmm Not sure *of* the true cause of the issue, but I have a fix.

Inventor Translator Fix

In case you encounter Translator issues with Inventor.

Usually you see a message like “problems encountered while saving the document” during the files translation.

This issue shows up in Windows 7 and Windows 8 (primarily in Windows 8), and it seems to affect DWG, DXF file conversion.

  1. When this happens, bring up the Command Prompt (CMD) and start it using “Run as Administrator”

(basically Right Click on the CMD.exe)

  1. Next go to the base of the c drive (Use CD..)

  1. Then Type in “cd C:\Program files\autodesk\inventor 2014\bin”

In your case for 2013, Type in “cd C:\Program files\autodesk\inventor 2013\bin”

  1. Then type in “inventor/install”

(it reinstalls all the dll files used for Translating, you may have to re-initialize any AutoCAD Verticals (like AutoCAD Mech))

  1. Make sure you wait 1 minute after starting the re-install of the dlls ( I normally wait 2 minutes just to be sure)

Below is a screen shot showing what to type in.

Please note this screenshot is for 2014.

I think this actually came from an autodesk White paper (Minus the screenshot). but it was quicker to post my own notes on it...LOL.

I hope this helps,

James

Hi James,
I have reinstalled dlls and still get the same thing. How do you re-initialize the AutoCAD Verticals? Thanks

Hi Bravas11

Well when I previewed my steps that had the right numbers.... in anycase.

For Re-intializing the product, I mean run repair, or re-install from the usb key.

Go into Programs and Features, find the product (Like AutoCAD Electrical), right click select uninstall/Change (DON'T Uninstall it!).

the middle selection should be Repair or Reinstall. select that and run one or both of them (it should re-link to the updated dlls)

Here is the Autodesk link (not my notes... lol)

I hope this helps (and is a little clearer)
