Convert an ipt drawing to a dwg or dxf using Inventor 2011.

As simple as the task sounds, I cannot figure out how to convert an IPT file into a DXF or DWG file.  What am I missing?  THANKS.

Not all that difficult, but extremely well hidden.  Click the Environments tab, AEC Exchange.  You will have an option there to "Save as DWG Solids."

That is, assuming you meant that you wanted 3D AutoCAD objects.  If you wanted 2D views, the answer would be different.

Thank.  I'm interested in 2D saves so the files can be used by CNC waterjet cutting machines.  Can I convert the 3D DWG to 2D using Autocad  Mechanical?

You probably could do it that way, but I would suggest creating a drawing in Inventor from your part with the views you need.

The drawing (not the 3D model) then can be saved out as an AutoCAD DWG or DXF.

Are you talking about the flat pattern?  If so, simply right click on the flat pattern in the browser and save as dwg or dxf or sat.
