Content Library Problem

I am running IV 6 SP 2 on a brand new Dell 4550 system. Win XP, 512 mb ram
and an ATI 9700 video card. When I try to insert a part from the content
library I get the I-drop symbol, but when I drag it into my assembly nothing
happens. When I do the same thing on a computer that is a three years old
it works fine. Has anybody ever expierenced this, and what did you do to
fix it? I talked with the Autodesk folks and after about a week of
installing, re-installing, getting new drivers, cleaning the registry,
nothing worked and they've given up on my problem. The I-drop feature works
on all my other Autodesk programs such as Autocad and Arch. Desktop, and I
can even open the library from IV 5.3 and I-drop parts from that content
library into my IV 6 assemblies! What gives?

First of all, try iParts instead of the Content Library. You can get started at Charles' site www.cbliss.com/inventor

Second of all I'd suspect your ATI card. IV and ATI sometimes don't play nice together. Maybe try downgrading the optimization level under Application Options => hardware tab.

I've had the same problem, and solved it with a clean reinstall.
Had the same problem yesterday temporarily, but noticed that - by accident -
the dropdown box in the lower end of the library browser was set to
Replace...
