I am working on creating custom structural steel content libraries for our company. One thing that I would like to do is to have the content center create a new part with the xy plane as the midplane of the resultant part. By default, the xy plane is at one end of the part. I turned on the xy plane in the part shown in this screen shot.
Does anyone have any ideas on this?
2 thoughts (neither tested) :-
If you're using the standard CC members, then you can place a member as Custom, edit it, add the mid length WP based on the G_L (or B_L) divided by 2 and then update the family template. Test to see if this works.
Same applies if you're publishing your own content (*sketch on an Origin Plane), or do the initial extrude as Symmetric. Then the Origin WP wil always be in the middle.
Ed,
Would this idea happen to speak to what you are talking about?

As mentioned, neither idea was tested. I had a go at the 'update family template' method but couldn't get it to work. And thinking a bit more on the concept of publishing your own content and doing the initial extrude symetric probably won't work either because of the way the FG uses the start and end planes.
Good news is it has been added to the IdeaStation so we just have to wait and see if it will come through in 2015 or later.
And it is under review too!!! Which means they are thinking about it. Hopefully soon it will become added.
Feel free to cast your kudo vote for it!!!
