Content Center 2012 v. 2014

We use the Standard CC that comes with the Inventor Software. Just updated to 2014 from 2012, and if we use the default 2014 CC that comes with Inventor instead of migrating the 2012 CC, will this break links in assemblies that used the 2012 CC parts?

I think you are possibly confusing two possible issues...

You use the standard Content Center that comes wih Inventor:  By this you mean the standard content center libraries.  These are the catalogues that Inventor reads when you place a CC component into an assembly.  The library is not a part file - just a description of how the part is created.  Therefore, if you already have assemblies containing CC parts, the libraries have absolutely no bearing on borken links etc.  You could install Inventor 2014 without any libraries, and your assemblies will be fine.

The location of your content centerfiles is the bit you should worry about.  When you "place from content center", Inventor will actually make the part file and save it for you in a special location.  Assuming you have not specified this location (in your Project file or Application Options), then Inventor will (by default) put them in C:\Users\[user_name]\Documents\Inventor\Content Center Files\R2014.  (Substitute "2014" for the version you use.)

From this you can see that if you didn't specify this location, you probably have all the CC parts located in c:\.....\2012 - and a default installation of 2014 will be looking in c:\.....\2014.

Simply knowing the location that CC files are saved and specifying it either in your Project file or Application Options saves this yearly grief.

Hope that helps.

Peter
