Constraint Issues

Hello,

I have a hinge arm assembly that I need help constraining, but am having trouble figuring out what ones to use in order to get it to work properly. The pic I have attached shows how far it needs to open (once the "nub" comes in contact with the shaft on the arm, it needs to stop). What is the best way to upload this assembly?

The question is are you trying to just show two views, closed and fully open for your drawings, or are you wanting the model to function if one part is moved manually? Both actions require diferent steps.

Put all the parts and iam file into a folder.

Right click on the folder and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.

Attach the resulting *.zip file here.

Looks like you might need a Contact Set.

There are a few dynamic simulations in the files included with inventor in the tutorial files, I believe both the cam and windshield wipers may have everything in place, constraintwise as you need. A good place to start at least.

You were missing the Grounded part in your attachment, but it looks like you need to right click on Sash Arm and support arm and select Contact Set.

Then go to Inspection tab and Activate Contact Solver.

Once you have verified the correct motion behavior I would turn off the contact solver (as it will slow things down).

This assembly will need to function properly in another assembly....so I am guessing once I figure out the correct constraints and make this assembly flexible, everything should be good to go. Thanks for the help.
