combine in assembly mode

I am working in assembly mode.  I have 2 individual parts they overlap together due to assembly requirements.  On seeing this, instead of 2 individual parts I want combine and make it into 1 part.  Is there any way, I can do combine in assembly file.

Just like using combine command when we have 2 solid parts in a part file.

There is no command to do this. You could make them a subassembly. You could then derive this subassembly into a part file. Or you could use a LOD to do this, so that you can operate on the parts individually and toggle back to the derived part.

Does this help?

You guys might be thinking too hard on this.

Open one of these files in context in the assembly.

Start Copy Object

Select the other part still visible in the Assembly and make this a new solid

Then use Combine

Return to the Assembly and delete the other part

I am sorry.  I am not used to using substitutes.  if you don't mind, can you please provide me with a classic example of how to use substitutes.  Thank you.
