Changing Radius Dimension to Diameter

How do I change this dimension into a diameter dimension?

radius.JPG

I have tried editing the dimension style to display as a diameter and it doesn't change it.  I tried creating a new dimension style and it doesn't change it.  So thus the question.

Hi Cadmanto,

If you right-click while creating the dimension (select the curve, then right click), you can toggle it to a diameter dimension.

Will that work?

I hope this helps.

Yes, that will and did work quite nicely!!!  Smiley Happy

Thank you.

So why can't it be changed after it is created?  Is this a bug in the software?

Hi Cadmanto,

Not a bug since it's functioning "as designed", but it's certainly a limitation.

I know you're aware of feature enchancement link, but I'm posting this in case someone else sees this and thinks it would be a good idea too.

Hey Curtis,

Ok, fair enough.

Yes, I know of that link thanks to you and I think I will suggest this as

an enhancement.

I select the curve and right click I do not get the option to change it to a diameter. I get properties and visibility and zoom. I really want to change this.

Thanks

Hi nwrensch,

Start the Dimension tool, click the circle/arc, and THEN right click.

Make sure you're not clicking a mid point (green dot) or something else. The arc/circle will highlight when you've clicked it.

Also make sure you have only the arc/circle selected, as that might give you different right click results if you have more than just the intended geometry selected.

I hope this helps.

I still didn't work, I still was not given an option to change the
dimension type. I am using Inventor 2017 release 2017.3

Thanks

Hi nwrensch,

Not much more to be done from this end but guess, so let's start at the beginning:

Is your computer plugged in?

Is Inventor started?

Do you have a drawing open?

Is there a circle or arc on the drawing?

Smiley Tongue

I'm just joking, but you'll have to provide more than "it's not working" in order to go further.

Can you attach some screen shots, or describe the steps you are taking exactly? Are you trying to modify an existing dimension (that can't be done as noted by Cadmanto), or are you creating a new dimension?

More info please.

I hope this helps.

Can you attach an example file here that doesn't work?

Is the geometry an arc or is the geometry a spline?

Can you make a Screencast Recording of your steps?

Screen shot file is attached.

for right most geometry option to diameter worked, did not work for any other arcs.

Hi Sudhir,

It is possible the arc is not true arc. It is a spline looking like an arc. Try this. Go to the model and use Measure command of measure the same edge. Does it show radius/diameter value? If yes, I would like to see the example. Please share it here or send it to me directly (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com).

Many thanks!

Hi @nigel_swehla

Welcome to the forum.

Once the dimension has been placed the type can not be changed. Not sure why, but that is how it works/doesn't work.

It is as you are placing the dimension that you must right click, and choose Dimension Type in order to change the type.

I hope this helps.

Hello to everyone,

I have one question, this situation is possible to apply in the baseline dimension?

I have a cylinder and i made a section of one side only, and i want to put 10 or 20 dimensions using the baseline command, but i want that dimensions as a diameter.

There is any way to do that using baseline? or i have to put one dimension at the time?

Thanks for the time!

Hi @RAMLago

I don't know of a solution for this, but here is a link to a future enhancement request that is similar:

Feel free to add your feedback at that link if you have additional thoughts.
