Change Name, Change Project, Change Location.

I have two files. (Under project Bead Breaker Clamps.ipj)
G:\Engineering Dwgs\Projects\2492\Bead Breaker Clamps\2492-10.Idw
G:\Engineering Dwgs\Projects\2492\Bead Breaker Clamps\2492-10.Ipt

I need to move & rename them to (Under project Rimex Inventor.ipj)
G:\Dwgs\00\Inventor\785-000-0009.Idw
G:\Dwgs\00\Inventor\785-000-0009.Ipt

I had a few posts about this last week, every thing I tried has resulted in
corrupt files or it all seems to work, but when I open the new files and
hit save i get "Problems encountered while saving the document".

Could someone give me detailed step by step instuctions please. That way I
can check If I am missing something. All help is welcome, I am getting
desperate here.

Thanks

I'm not sure what the reply's were to your last post. Did you try "SAVE COPY AS"? to the new location with new name.
Or Find the file (2492-10.ipt) in Windows Explorer, RMB, Pack and GO, and specify new loaction. The locate copied file in new location and rename using DA. Sorry, can't give you play-by-play. Dependent on Project set-up (Shared; Semi-Isolated,...) I had the same problem, but was able to solve it with the Pack and Go command. Takes some experimenting in the Pack and Go console. Make sure to set it to using current Porject file (Bead Breaker Clamps.ipj) and search for linked files (to get the idw).

I am no expert in this area, but in the case you are talking about... just one IDW and its
IPT you should just be able to use Windows to copy the files to the new directory (as long
as both directories aren't in the Project files)

Make sure the Project for the new location is active, Exit Inventor then In the new
location in Windows Explorer and rmb on the IDW and choose Design assistant. Go to Manage
mode, and click on Action for the IPT file. Choose Rename, then Right click on its name
in the Name column and choose change name. Enter the new name and click Open. Then
click the Save
button and exit DA. Now in Windows just rename the IDW file.

Here is the method I use. Create new project location and project file.
Use old project file as "included file". Open old IDW in DA and
select "manage". Select (highlight) both IDW and IPT files, select
action > "copy", select file location > "change location" and enter new
location, select name > "change name" and enter new name. Select "save"
icon at top. When complete, edit new project file to delete "included
file".

I also do not use mapped drive information in my project files, I use
the UNC. Mapped drives have always caused me problems similar to what
you described in the past when renaming and moving files.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, trying a single part to start.

I have tried every response to this thread without success, But in a wild
guess I changed my destination project to "Multi User = Off", as soon as I
did this everything works.

I think I may have a problem with the way I am trying to use projects in
general, I am going to type a post explaining how our system is currently
setup for MDT and get everyone's adivise on how to setup projects for
Inventor. Luckly everything I have done with Inventor so far is in R&D
projects seperate from our main database of parts and assemblies, this was
just the first inventor part to go into production.

Thank to everyone that made a suggestion, I got the drawing out the door and
the boss is off my back (at least till tommorrow 😉

First think if you haven't already... read the White Paper that is on the CD about
Projects.

I keep thinking about switching to mulituser (even though I am a single seat) but haven't
done it yet. I do know though that there is some issues with DA and multiuser Projects.
I think some people set up duplicate projects with multiuser off just to be able to use DA
on the files.

I am sure you will get more informed responses from others also . 8^)

I think I have fallen asleep on that (Edited) white paper on at least two
different nights 😉

You do need to somehow get through it. You did stumble onto the
solution however. You must be in multi-user/off mode for DA to work
properly. Not using mapped drive letters in the project files will save
headaches also.
