CARLINE GRID

Hi There,

Just need to know how people in the Body and White industry handle carline
grids in Inventor.

Apparently IV6 supports something like this. you can create sketches in
assembly mode and make them visible in the idw???

Where do you create these sketches? Must they be assembly featuresor in a
part, and how do you make them visible in the idw.

Cheers

Pieter

I'm in the same boat here. Not sure how to handle this myself...

If many are like me, it's not that surprising. Haven't a clue what a Carline
Grid is.

Your totally right. You caught us. We picked you out of all the other
hundreds of posters here and communicated secretly through e-mail and said,
"Guys, let's NOT help him. No particular reason or anything..." Yes, absolutely
correct.

Or, it could be that you are asking a question no one knows much about. And I
don't know about you, but I would rather have people not say anything than give
me wrong information.

Yes, I know... you got me!
Had a bad day I suppose.

I just needed an answer urgently and could not get it.

After some research, I think I know what you mean...you can show model sketches
in PART drawings only. If you have a view, RMB on it and "Show Contents" Then
expand it in browser and RMB on part. Then "Get Model Sketches"

I may be way off base, but what I remember from some discussions in the MDT group in the
past, .... everything in a car is built on a grid system, and your part has to be build in
the proper spot on the grid so that when you send it to someone else it fits in the right
spot without constraints.... kind of skeleton modeling without the supporting skeleton
Going from bad memory cells, but as I remember they also have to show the location of the
grid in the 2d drawings.

Thanks mate...
It is a pitty that you can not make assy. sketches visible in the IDW. I
will now basicaly have to create three parts for the three planes and they
will show up in my bill.

Thanks

Ah ... so that's what it is: pretty much the same thing I use old fashion H
& V dims for sometimes. I'd think that since the grid has borders
anyway, it might work to extrude a thin background the same size as the
grid, make a new sketch on the face and add the grid. Then get model
sketches in the idw should bring it in, no?

Part work features can be shown in a part or assembly IDW (axes will show in
iso views). If you want to put all your assembly datum features in a part
dedicated for the purpose (my preference vs using assembly work features);
rmb, properties, occurrence = reference will keep it from showing in the parts
list.
