Cannot run stress analysis

Hello,

I have a less complex version of this file and it runs just fine, however, this more complex geometry will not work.

Essentially it is 4 0.25mm thick layers of a honey comb lattice that have been slightly offset to provide strength and buckling resistance. I want to run a stress analysis to see if this more complex model is stronger than the less complex.

I can click on the faces, vertices, and edges of the model as usual, but when I try to add a constraint or a force, it will not highlight/let me click on the model

What should I do? Is there a way to fix my model and get it working?

No file attached.

Find the red End of Part marker in the browser.
(End of Folded on sheet metal parts EOF)
Drag the red EOP to the top of the browser hiding all features.

Save the file with the EOP in a rolled up state.

Right click on the file name and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.

Attach the resulting *.zip file here.

Try using IE to attach if you are using some other browser.

I did not realize you could upload zipped folders. I tried to upload the STEP, STL, and ITP files, but did not have any luck. Now that I know you can upload a zipper folder, would you like me to send you all of the files listed above?

Here are all the files I have. They are the same file, but in different formats.

I am interested in ONLY the Inventor part or assembly that exhibits this behavior.

1. Have you rebooted the computer and the problem persists?

2. What is your current selection filter priority set to?

3. You posted several neutral format files - do you have a valid solid body in Inventor?

4. Why are your planar faces comprised of faceted triangles.

5. Where are you getting the geometry - is it created in Inventor or some other program?

What I am currently doing works with a much less complex version of this model. So I do not know if this complex version is a valid solid body. Is there a way to fix it so that it is a valid solid body?

I added additional questions above.

This is trivial simple planar geometry - not complex geometry.  The question is - where is the Inventor geometry?

The question is, why is it faceted?

(my guess, given no Inventor geometry - you are using stl for some unstated reason)

I did not make these files in inventor, I made them in Maya. Using maya I converted them to STL files, the ran those STL files in Rhino to convert polygonl meshes to NURBS. Then I converted the NURBS to a STEP file, and finally imported that into inventor. I do not have any experience designing in inventor, I only have experience with maya. However, A much simplier version of this file has worked in inventor using the method I described above. I have no idea why this file is not working, considering I used the exact same process, and am now getting different results.

Why is this happening?

Is there a way to fix it?

If there a more direct way to get Maya files into inventor?

1. You still haven't attached your *.ipt file.

2. I haven't used Maya - but check what filetypes Maya can save (not stl - stl is faceted surfaces - of no use) STEP, IGES or DWG or DXF or ACIS out of Maya would be best.

3. This part would be fairly simple to recreate from scratch as native Inventor geometry - you should have supplied all of the above information in the original post.

Here is an updated zip folder. This one has the ITP file in it.

See if you can do anything with this file.

(Find the red End of Part marker in the browser.)

Drag the red EOP down to reveal the features.

The file you sent me works. What did you do to make it work? I would love to know how you fixed it.

Do you have Inventor Professional?

Go to Envirnments>Stress Analysis

Students can download Inventor Professional for free from http://www.autodesk.com/edcommunity

Unfortunately I do not have Inventor Professional. When I go to the environments tab I only have the following options:

- Inventor Studio

- BIM Exchange

- Eco Materials Advisor

- Convert to Sheet Metal

- Add-Ins

Do I need Preofessional? If that is the case I will get my company to order it.
