Cannot modify the library file

Whenever I go to modify a part I keep getting an error that states that I cannot modify the library file and then the name of the file. Why can i not modify the part? It is happening to all of my parts.

Hi,

Did you check your project settings to make sure that this folder is not in
the path of Library folder that you may have set.

You do not have to change that option. That is for Style Library which does
not affect editing parts.
There is another option (in the >> expanded mode) to see Libraries. Can you
see if you have any paths listed there?

I had the same problem after installing IV 2009 Pro until discovering that I had mistakingly made the content center and project file the same path. Hope this helps.

Often, I want to use the half-section command on an assembly that is in a library folder. It won't let you do this because of the read-only thing. Is this by design? You should be able to section the assembly just to get a better look. You are technically not modifying anything by doing that.

I don't use vault and i use the default. None of my parts or anything goes to the same path as my project.

I had this problem a couple of weeks ago.
Check the properties (not iproperties) of the files in windows explorer.
Make sure they are NOT read only.
Ours jumped to read only on this project ,don't know how but unchecking read only cured it.

Rich,

If Harco's suggestion does not work, then there is a possibility that your
project file has become corrupted, especially if you have migrated the
project file from one version of Inventor to a newer version. Try creating a
brand-new project file in your current version of Inventor that matches the
paths in the original project file.

When i make a new project, the location path turns red and both the libraries turn red.

1. I would not use the documents and settings folder as a location for my
projects.

2. Content Center should not be listed under libraries.

I have a document, and a link to a tutorial on project files located at:

http://teknigroup.com/AU2007

Here's a representative image of a basic folder structure (attached). Notice
that the main library folder and Content Center folders are at the same tree
location as your workspace.

Generally Inventor will treat library paths as "read only." So your issue
here is that you have your
location set as a sub-folder within a library path.
