I am using Inventor Product Design Suite 2012. When I try to exit Inventor 2012 it just hangs there indefinitely every time. I have to use task manager to shut down Inventor. It doesn't matter if I use Inventor during that session or not. It was installed with all default settings and most current patches installed. It was also installed with administrator privledges and UAC turned off. This ia a clean install on a new hard disk drive.
The AutoCAD products in the bundle will hang sometimes on exit if plotting was the last command in that session.
My system is:
HP XW 8400
Dual Zeon 3.0 GHz CPU's
4 GB Ram
NVidia Quadro FX1800 Graphics Card
Windows 7 Professional with all current updates
All drivers are current
There are no anti virus software packages on this system. The hard drive still has 120 GB free space. Help, very frustrated. My tolerance for computer issues reduces as I age. My only saving grace is I don't have any IV work that needs to be finished immediately.
Thanks
Mike
Hi,
if you run into this problem,
go to the add-in manager, right click and select show hidden, search for Simulation: Optimization and uncheck "Automatic start"
We had the same problem here with a slow internet connection
we have the same issue on close. Procmon shows that inventor.exe tryes to asstabileshed Internet connection to s3-1-w.amazonaws.com
I think this issue is reliable to Cloud Optimization dialog that does not appers.... Maybe Flash issue?
I will try to install Flash and give you some Update.
Hi All,
Currently this is the only workaround for this problem.
Go to Start -> Run -> Regedit (to launch the registry editor)
Set the registry key “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\Inventor\Current Version\OptimizationUpdateNotified” to 1
This of course prevents the automatic installation of Inventor Optimization.
If you are still interested in working with Inventor Optimization, you can download and install Optimization manually from Autodesk Subscription center.
Hope it helps.

Hi All,
another workaround is to block Inventor.exe to use Internet Connection in your firewall. (Windows /other)

Hey peoples,
I just reviewed the same problem for one of my clients just now, where Inventor failed to close. The first and only thing I did was engage Inventor Application Options --> Hardware Tab --> "Compatibility Mode" and this seems to have fixed ths issue. I noted that this user was running a Radeon video card, which unfortunately doesn't carry Autodesk certification when reviewing this site;
http://www.autodesk.com/graphics-hardware
But regardless, switching Inventor to Compatibility Mode seems to have done the trick.
"The answer is that Inventor Optimization Update requires 15-20 minutes for downloads and does not allow to close the Inventor 2012 window.
The problem is solved, thanks.
Andrew."
I have this problem also, but not my PC, they try to install inventor but when run can't close after that. They also don't have the inventor Optimization update in the registry. What is the main problem of this? How to close it?
Are you a Autodesk Subscription customer?
If yes, force the Autodesk Optimization installation (+/- 97 MB because contain Inventor 2012 Sp1)
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/index?id=17796310&siteID=123112
"If you are a PrDS user the Optimization patch will be downloaded automatically once you launch Inventor, the downloading location is the folder " %Temp%", the time of the downloading depends on your network speed, when the downloading is finished a automatic prompt message dialog will be shown in Inventor, and Optimization patch named "centaurupdate.exe" will be in folder " %Temp%".
It seems like the solution options have been laid out several times now in this thread, which is good. It is pretty aggravating to me that Autodesk would build in a download like this with no indication of what's going on, no easy way to turn it off, etc. I literally spent 4 hours trying to "solve" this "problem" because my Internet connection is slow, and I have to pay for usage. If I had only known what was going on, it would've been an easy fix.
I fully agree
And to realize what happened i spend hours and hours searching on internet.
Thanks MariaManuela!
How about if they only want to install it as trial version before they buy it? Or just install the service pack 1, this problem can be solve?
