Can unique part numbers be created for Custom iParts?

Like many of you, I am using custom iParts to create various lengths of
standard materials which are cut to length (items such as strut channel, 2X2
steel tube, and aluminum extrusions). I then edit their part number using
iProperties to include the length. Using Charles Bliss's BOMxTractor, I get
a fully detailed bill of materials which can also be used as a cut list for
manufacturing.

I would like to be able to set up the iPart so that it creates the part
number, including the length information, when it creates a part. Does
anyone have any suggestions as to how this might be done? I have tried using
spreadsheet functions in the iPart table but they either do not run when the
part is created or they do run but reference the default length rather than
the custom length.

It would also be nice if the new part's filename defaulted to the created
part number and the default storage location was a subdirectory in the
folder where the iPart factory's directory.

Thank you for any suggestions or insight into how this might be done.

Sincerely,

Michael
