Can't see drawing

I have installed Inventor 2014 and everything eems to work fine and it will open my 'pack and go' that I have created from college but I can't see it, it vanishes into the background colour. When I hover my cursor over the drawing I can see the outline so I know that the drawing is there. I have tried changing the background colour, and line colours, and view>visual style>and it was already on shaded. Please help?

Also, I have lost the menu that runs down the left hand side of the screen, how do I get that back?

Thanks

Hi megan.hankinson ,

To bring back the missing Browser, see this image:

As for the issue without not being able to see the drawing, nothing comes to mind. Can you provide a screen shot of what you're seeing?

Also, when you say "drawing" do you really mean a drawing file (2D Flat file), or do you mean a model file?

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis

Megan,

Welcome to the forum.

Is this the only drawing you are seeing this condition with?

Are all of your display drivers up to date with your graphics card?  Do you have the latest SP's loaded for Inventor 2014?

Hi Curtis,

Got the browser back, thanks. I mean any drawing flat or model, can't see anything.  I can draw but when I let go its only when I hover over with the cursor that I can see it again, (but only the outlines). I have a very basic knowledge of Inventor and computers in general so I apologise for lack of technical language. I will get some screen shots for you with cursor hovered over and off.

Many Thanks

Megan

Hi Megan,

SP's are Service Packs.  Here is the link to download it if you need it.  The latest is SP 1.  If you go into a session of Inventor and under the help down arrow you will see a selection called "About Inventor".  If you click on that it will tell you what service pack you have loaded.

Here is a link that will help you figure out which video card you have.  Once you find out, google search the drivers for that card.  Then download them and install them.  Then see if that helps this issue you are having.

First of all

install Service Pack 1

and Update 1, 2 & 3 for Service Pack 1

http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/downloads#?ADSKContentGroup-local=Downloads&...

Actually I see you only need SP 1 and Update 3 (includes Update 1 & 2)

http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/downloads/caas/downloads/content/update-3-fo...

If that doesn't work, then

go to Tools>Application Options>Hardware Setting and set to lowest setting.

Hi megan.hankinson,

I didn't see the screen shot. Some people have issues including images on this forum due to the internet browser they're using, so you might try a different one.

In the mean time, here are a couple of other things to try:

If you close all open Inventor files and then go to the Tools tab > Application Options button > Hardware tab and choose Software Graphics, and then open the file, does this help?

If so, it indicates that your graphics card is likely the issue.

Once you've done this test, choose one of the other settings such as Compatibility or Performance, and see if this works. You do not want to use the Software Graphics full time, as it will make Inventor run slow.

If none of this seems to help, then maybe providing some system information might help others see what's going on. You can use the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (Dxdiag.exe). This tool is designed to help you troubleshoot DirectX-related issues. This tool gives detailed information regarding your computers graphics and other system information. It can be a valuable tool in determining hardware specifications.

See this link for a PDF showing how to generate a DirectX Diagnostic report:

I hope this helps.
