Can't connect/assembly/constrain imported stl parts

I've downloaded the liberator from TPB and I would like to assemble it, but when I try the constrain, joint or assemble button I can not select/click the 2 parts from the gun to put together.

What do I have to do???

STL is NOT the proper file format. It will get you trangulated surfaces only and not solid features.

STL is for export to 3d printer software/stereolithography machines.

Do they not have this notorious gun in STEP or IGES format?

Ifyou are on subscription you could get the Autodesk Mesh Enabler to convert the stl surface mesh to solid if you can get a proper STEP or IGES.
