Can part color remain when inserting into assy?

When I insert a part into an assy the color I had set in the part file
doesn't carry over into the assy. Is there any way to do this with out
modifying or creating custom materials?

wait, you set the color in the part file and then insert and it doesn't
carry thru? That's a new one. It's worked since R1 and ..hold on let me
check...yep still works in R6...

You sure you aren't setting the color in the assy. (in which case it will
not be retained in any other assy or sub)
