Can I use an IDW as a non changing record?

We do lot's of changes and I would like to have a permanent IDW of
particular parts or assembly's that have changed but I want to "break the
link" on the old versions and not have them update to the newest changes. I
realize that I would have to change the IDW file name by adding rev. a. rev.
b etc. to it but this way we could have a non parametric electronic record
of our IDW's of part/assy revisions (an IDW revision trail if you will).
Does this make sense?

How would I go about doing this?

Thanks

Sorry Larry while you were gone you didn't get the memo.

PDF are horrible, they don't work, are too big, too difficult to produce and
are for circus performers.

DWFs not only are for CAD data but cure baldness, bad looks and some forms
of leprosy. They are going to save the world.

C'mon Albert, be a trooper.

Implement the iVault.

I dare you.

Well said, LOL!

If Autodesk was soooo good at creating superior solution for us, the
customer, then why can't they create solutions like 3D Text, iTweak,
Kwikprints, JPEG & self executing model views, etc..? Then, they want to get
rid of the wonderful solutions that we do have like PDF's.

What Nerve!!!

Rev's is the only thing making me think of trying the vault. But from what I
have been hearing about it I am too scared to try. If Rev's is all I am
after is it worth the hassle? and once it is on can you go back?

Hey, you guys still haven't answered my question. I have seen an IDW do this
kind of thing before....by accident.

I suppose other than doing the smart thing (I had to get that jab in there 🙂 and make a PDF you could tie the drawing to a model then delete the model. That ought to stop it from updating. How about the defer update tool Charles made?
