Browser component names do not change after replacing component

We are having an issue when we replace a component in Inventor Pro 2012.  When we replace a component, the name in the browser does not update to the new component.  We've even tried to close and re-open the Inventor assembly and that does not work.  We end up manuall double clicking the name in the browser and type in the new component name.  Is anyone else having this issue?

I would try to search the discussion groups, but most of the time now nothing happens when I hit the Search button in Autodesk discussions groups.

First off I would never double click change the Occurance name in the browser.  If it was done on your part before your troubles, this more often than not cause the issue you ran into.

Try modifying the name, but instead of typing it in, blank it off and hit Enter.  That should restore it to it's default value.

Or

In assembly environment > Productivity panel....choose the Rename browser Nodes tool and finally Default.

Thanks Mark and Maria for your help.  We followed Maria's suggestion to go to the Productivie Panel and did a rename based on filename and it fixed all the browser names/node.

Mark we do not normally change the browse names.  The only time a rename was done was when it did not change automatically after a replace component.  I agree that this is not a good practice, but something my Inventor user would do when Inventor didn't change the names.

We will either blank the name out or us the Browser rename from the Productivity Panel from now on.

Thanks so much!

Hi all,

I am just wondering if Part No & Description both can be displayed in the Assy Browser?

Thanks,

Kris

Some assemblies automatically update the component names or file names, others need to do rename browser nodes after every component replace. Any idea what setting ?

Hi Maarten,

By default, the browser names are in sync with the file names. However, if the browser names are changed, they are no longer in sync (even on component replace). You will need to use Assembly Tools -> Rename Browser Nodes -> reset to File Names.

Many thanks!

I know, but when you have several versions of an assembly and in all of them a part needs tob e replaced then it is very boring to reset all the file names.
My point is that in some assemblies the file name updates automatical but in other assemblies need to rename browser nodes. What is different then ?
