Break out Help

I have a .idw view that I need to create a break out.

I create a sketch, and create a closed loop with lines. Sketch doctor says
no problems.

I go to break out and select the view and I get a error message saying " the
view does not contain a sketch with a closed profile"

Sketch doctor disagrees and so do I. What am I doing wrong?

You have not created the sketch WITHIN the view. Select the view, then
select sketch from the panel, or hit S.

Hello Paul,

Try creating another profile sketch, but do it this way. Select the view on
the sheet or in the browser and then press the sketch button. This will
associate the sketch to the view. The same procedure should happen on a
termination sketch for the breakout if you use one. The first part of the
message was correct. The view does not contain a sketch. I hope this helps,

Ok, got that, thanks.

Now, I create the sketch within the view, go to break out, select view,
select profile (closed loop) turns blue, then specify depth, etc, but I
never get a OK to proceed.

Loop is closed, there is a hole back there to break to

Now what am I not doing??

Thanks
Paul

I think you have to select the part in the view, even if it's only a
single part view.

Two things. You should post attachments in Inventor custormer files. See
the faq message for the location. The second thing is that you need to send
both the IDW and the IPT preferably zipped up. Plan IPT's can lock up
outlook express.

Is the hole turning red as you select it. If so you should be able to press
OK on the dialog to finish.

All attachments except Gif's Png's and Jpg's under 200k need to be posted to the Inventor.
customer-files newsgroup. I have moved your post there. You can follow it using the
appropriate link below.

Also it really helps to zip files before posting. It reduces bandwidth, and sometimes
unzipped files make some newsreaders lock up. The attachment shows up as pages and pages
of text like at the bottom of this post. The newsreader searches through all that text
looking for links

Got it, something in where I selected the part and boundary. I noticed that
the part itself changed shading and that's when it worked.

Sorry about the attachment, I forgot about the .ipt.

Thanks for the help
