BOM Thumbnail Export to Excel

Hi guys I have created a quick tool to export the contents of Inventors Structured BOM to Excel including the Thumbnail. One of our customers requested it and I could not find another way of doing this so I created a little app for it. Let me know what you think.

Nice, any way the end user can select which fields they want?

Inventor 2020, In-Cad, Simulation Mechanical

Just insert the picture rather than attaching it as a file

Hi, Yes it can be done but will take quite a bit more coding. Which fields do you need?

Great.  Does it work on 64 and 32 bit?  What is the procedure\where is the tool found?  Does it work in the assembly environment or in the drawing environment.  I have installed in on Win7 64 bit Inv 2011 and can not see the function.

Thanks again,

Guy

Seems not woking on a Chinese 64bit Win7 OS.

Can i ask a question about picture in cell.

Excel do not support insert a piture into a cell.  What's your approach about thumbnail in Excel cell?

Yes it should work on both 32 and 64 bit. Its not an add-in its a standalone application and was compiled for both 32 and 64 bit.

Yes it works once you have opened and Assy file. It will do a check to make sure you have an Assy file open. Then ask you for an excel filename to export to and then export the Structured BOM into the excel file.

Just give it a go and let me know what your experience is and I can do a few tweaks where needed.

Oh and here is another download location the first one will expire soon:

Tested and now confirmed working with 64bit Win 7....... and working very well!  Really nice work!

If you could define the fields to export it would be even better but that is in no way a criticism.

Thanks for sharing,

Guy

Thanks Guy. May I ask if you tested it with Inventor 2011 or 2012?

Hi guys here is a new version that should be a bit more robust. Give it a try and let me know. Please remember to uninstall the previous version first.

This would be better if you could use it inside Inventor directly and not have to leave the interface.  Kind of like Brian Ekins Parts List to Word addin.

Mmmm... I have not tested with 2010 at all. Have you tried running it with Inv 2010? What error do you get? Can you mail me a screenshot of the error? My email address is on the application window.

Yea. I works!

(R2011 Win7 x64)

Though it only takes the 1st Level even if I set the BOM to all Levels.

Goog Job!
