autocad title block template to Inventor

I've been using autocad using the company title block, and now that I'm working with Inventor I would like to use that info with Inventor. How can I use the company's title block for parts drawn when I'm in Inventor? I'd like to create a template using the new drawing title block.

Open your template IDW file, expand the drawing resources folder, and right
click on the Titleblock folder .... select "Define new titleblock" Once in
Edit mode click on the AutoCad icon and browse to your AutoCad DWG of the
titleblock.

That said I think most people find it just as easy to start from scratch and
recreate it directly in Inventor using all the build in Properties etc.

I did as you said. What I got was the dwg(title block, boarder, etc.)which is what I wanted, but in the same area is the default sheet as well. The default is a C size, what I want is a arch.d size. Eventhough the c size is there, can I use the other? You mentioned I should start from scratch using the tools of Inventor. By doing so,can I get the same results as the dwg sheet with company title block and boarder? (the one I have in autocad)And, can I make it a template?

I am not sure I am understanding what problems you are running into, but
... You can delete the inserted C size and insert then one you just created
. If you do any of this in the Default.idw (or what ever template idw you
use) it will be that way for any new drawing you make.

The company I work for uses AutoCad, within that program there are formated drawing sheets. The drawing sheets have the company logo in the title block with all the info included. The drawing size used most is a architectual size D. When I start a drawing I insert the board with title block (in paper space)and do my geometry in modle space.
The company now is using Inventor and I am gather
ing information to make Inventor the primary platform. I've been working with Inventor for awhile and want to progress.
I have very little problems with modling. Now I want to use Inventor as a 2-D tool. What I'd like to do is import the format that I use in AutoCad to Inventor so all I have to do is hit the iwd icon and up pops the sheet with the format I need. I have a lot of 3-D drawings that I wood like to make into a 2-D dwg. How can I accomplish this.

In Inventor, the Border and Title Block are two separate things - I tend to
use the standard border and a custom Title Block.

When you bring in the Autocad geometry as Kent suggested - make sure it's
only the Title Block lines - it's best to not use the text from the Autocad
file.

But as Kent said - it's best to re-create from scratch. What I have done is
dimension the titleblock in Acad and use those dimensions when sketching the
new Title Block in Inventor.

Steve,

Another important item to note  which is why I
think it is often easier to start from scratch is that for some reason, when
importing acad information as a titleblock, it will not convert any autocad
attributes into Inventor "prompted entries".  I do not understand why adesk
did it this way but I  have been told it works the way they intended it
to.  That being said, if your title blocks in autocad do contain
attributes, you will have to recreate those items as prompted
entries.

I am still not sure what part of the process you are having problems?? If it is just that
you want a certain "format" already picked when you start a new IDW, simply open the IDW
you use for a template from the install base dir\templates folder, create or import your
border, then delete the one that is inserted into the drawing and insert yours. Then save
the template.

Sounds like I'll have to create a new border and title block. Can I match the lineweight of the border and title blk?
How about the company logo; can that be imported? When I create a new border how do I get rid of the old one; the same with the title block? And, when I save them will they be listed in the dwg resources?

What I want to do is open a new IWD go to Drawing Resources, open Sheet Formats and pick the D size format. When the format appears it will be the company's border and title block. I don't know how to do it.

That is exactly what we have been trying to explain in this thread. If you follow the
steps outlined it should work.

List the steps one by one that you have taken and where you are having trouble.

RMB on the sheet and pick edit. In the drop-down,
pick D for the sheet size, get it looking like you want then save it to the
template directory. If you name it Standard and put it in the top-level Template
directory, it will be the default template. Save the default Standard
template to another name first though.

I've created a border and title block. I haven't entered any anotations yet. How do I get the company logo on the title block? Can give me the info to save everything? I've already named it, but how do I put it in the top level template directory. Please give me a step by step process. Should I rename mine Standard? Steve

The top-level folder is Templates. Below
Templates are sub-folders such as English/Metric.

When you have the sheet the way you want it, name
it (the D size sheet) Standard.idw and put it in the folder named
Template.

There is already one in there named Standard.idw
so you can name it StandardC.idw so it won't get overwritten. The file that is
named Standard.idw/whatever is the C size sheet you've been seeing when you open
a new drawing. When you make the new D size the Standard.idw, and place it
in the folder named Template it will be the one that opens from now until
you change it.

There are a multitude of threads on bringing in
logos, but IMWO, the best solution is to create it in Inventor. Check the
web-based group to read the older posts on the subject.

I renamed my file Standard.idw and renamed the one in Templates StandardC.idw. Then I filed mind to the Templates folder. Everything transfered nicely, but, when I opened a new idw dwg under Standard.idw what came up was a border and title that I created without any anotations. What went wrong? Steve

Don't know what annotations you are talking
about. All the entries you add to the TB via the Text, Prompted entries, Model
Prosperities, Drawing Properties tools when editing a TB, will show up in the TB
when that TB is used. One other possibility is that you have the wrong TB
selected. You can look in the Drawing resources to see the TBs available, if
it's not the right one, delete it and add the correct one.

why not put all your custom formats (templates) in
a file under your company name followed by formats (ex. xxxxxxx formats) in the
template directory there for all your custom formats are easy to find and in one
location
