Autocad 2002 > MDT 6 > Inventor 6 Can it be done!

I have tons of SPEARS valves that are drawn in 2D & 3D and need them
imported to inventor. How do I do this? Help in Inventor is unlcear to me.
I can sucessfully get them to be viewed in MDT6 but when importing to
Inventor nothing happens? Can someone Help me. I will post the 3D Autocad
Drawing in CF. It will be a 1 1/2" TrueUnion Valve.

Thanks

Jeff,
There are two routes for you:
- open file in ACAD, (maybe explode ACAD blocks first), do a boolean/union,
do a acisout, then open sat file in IV
- open file in MDT, do a part/new, (maybe explode ACAD blocks first), save
as MDT file, open file in IV.
I just tried it with your example - shouldn't be any problem!

May be a stupid question (not familiar with MDT). How do I save as a MDT
File?

MDT doesn't have a special file type. I think Leo just meant to save the file
with the MDT entities; save as you normally would.

When you open the 3D drawing in MDT, did you convert them to MDT part
(Create new part and click on 3D model)? Or otherwise Inventor cannot see
ACAD 3D models, only MDT models. Anyone correct me if I am wrong...

I opened the Autocad File in MDT6 and clicked Part>Part>New Part and it
added it to the browser on the left. I then saved as I "normally" would and
then closed MDT6 and then Opened Inventor selected File
Open>Desktop>015Valve and it asks me if if want to translate....I say yes
and then it opens a assembly drawing with nothing in it?

OK - maybe you are missing some basic MDT tricks.
You need to convert the ACAD file into MDT parts, so pick amnew command and
select any of the the 3dsolids, watch the command line if it's telling you
about errors. You may need to explode the ACAD blocks first before being
able to convert them to parts. Do a list command of every piece - if it's
telling you 3dsolid, you won. If it's telling you block, you need to explode
it one more time. If it's telling you surface, body, or region, you lost the
right path.
Just another workaround:
Open file in MDT, do a amacisout/all, open newly created file (has the file
extension *.sat) in IV, save.

The AMACISOUT is what I did but you must Explode the blocks first.
