auto save

Is Autodesk goin to come out and do an auto save feature with Inventor?  I know that some people at my company would love to see that.

I sure hope not.

Sounds like some of the people in your company need a bit of training on how, when and why to save.

JD, I don't understand this response. What objection would you have to an optional autosave feature, with options such as prompt / no, frequency, type of files to autosave, etc  ?

There is a wishlist item logged to have an autosave in Inventor currently. Inventor contains a save reminder from subscription advantage pack for 2010 forward at this point.

Users can log enhancement requests at the following url:

Thank you.

I've read many posts here in regards to this but the new search option only found one;

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Autodesk-Inventor/Autosave-setting-for-Inventor/m-p/2345582/highlight/...

I tend to believe if this were implemented, I would turn it off.

What I would like to see instead of an auto save feature is a drawing recovery feature similar to what ACAD has. Of course that is partially due to myself sometimes forgetting to save often, however I'll find myself blazing through a good 30 mins of constraints or construction only to run into a random crash and lose what I've just done. Granted, it doesn't happen all the time but it would still be nice to have.

does the Old Versions (if used) folder provide an older version of your files?

Yes the old versions does but its limited.  At our company I have had to open old versions cause the working versions got corrupt

There is a reminder function but I turn it off. I find the Ctl^C to be the easiest and I save very often, especially if I am creating new components within a IAM.

Thanks, didn't know about it. I wonder if it works on IV2011 yet?

Because if you are in the middle of a "what if " scenario and the auto save kicked in, your dust if it turns out it doesn't work and you need to change direction. If it works i will do a save as with a new number, but not till then.

That's why I would make it 'optional' and include options such as 'prompt' and 'types of files to autosave', etc.

For example, I almost never do 'what-ifs' while woring on idw's. And some folks in my company work almost exclusively on idw's.

And contrary to someone else's research, I'd say autosave is probably among the top five frequently asked questions in this group.

That's the first thing I turn off in IV, is the Auto-Reminder. I save very often and don't have a problem. I probably don't work for more than 10-15min without saving. If I am going to try out of the ordinary, I save before I try it.

At the end of each day, my work is backed up to the network server, as well as a internal dedicated HD for back-up as well as sync'd to a external USB drive for work at home.

If you loose data/work, you have no one to blame but yourself

yeah, that "someone" only searched on "auto save" and "some" software I believe that is"Powered by Lithium" only found one relvant hit.

This has been asked many times, as you've stated, and I attempted to get that point across in my 1st reply.

Hi,

This issues is well known for inventor users, we have now created an addin for Inventor that supports autosave with different options.

Here is a video of Auto Save feature that comes with easy Tools.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kk8R5HKGkAA

For more information you may check the website:
http://www.easy-tools.no

The AutoSave function will make it easy for user to setup Autodesk Inventor to automatically save:
Active file
Modified Files
All Open files
Or Select from Open file list.
The feature can run in both silent and pop up modes 🙂

All the builds for 2010 supports 2011, we are doing some more testing and issue fix for the Pro Version.

Please contact us with your contact details and I will get back to you with a demo that you can test on Inventor 2011.
