Is there a way to create asymmetric pattern, both circular and rectangular, in assembly environment. For example, I have a component which I want to circular pattern at different angles rather than fixed angles. Let's say 3 componets around the circular pole- angle between 1 &2 - 175deg, angle between 1 & 3 (in same direction) 265deg. I understand that this will violate the definition of pattern but would be nice to have such feature. If I am not mistaken, Solidworks has that ability to do asymmetric pattern which I have used years ago. Please respond.
Sorry but this looks like one of those posts that show up from time to time when Solidworks and Inventor are hyping their new releases. Every year around this time there is someone with a first post saying "Inventor can't do this, Solidworks does".
Why would you want it to be a "pattern"?
And vice-a-versa. I am sure you would able to find posts on Solidworks forum that things it can't do which Inventor can. Let's not get into who can do what.
Let me know only please if you know answer.
I don't mean to hurt anyone here just looking for an answer.
Thanks,
And now the name is different, interesting.
Just tell us more about what you are trying to accomplish and maybe we can find a way to do what you want with things that are essentially randomly spaced without using the feature that evenly spaces things.
Hi SSRK,
You may use a regular pattern, but suppress some instances within the pattern. Or make a regular pattern and select one instances in the pattern to become independent.
The component pattern tool within assemblies do not support assymetrical offsets at this time (2013). If you like, I can create a feature enhancement request on your behalf or you can send one to development via the following link.

Hope this helps.
Thanks,

Thanks very much. Please make feature enhancement request on my behalf. I will appreciate that.

I would make use of it!
While we're at it let's add running multiple component patterns off of the same part or better yet, off of an occurance in a pattern. That I would use the heck out of!
I would like something a little like this. We have a lot of rectangular covers over access holes, I've got to suppress the bolt holes through the middle of the cover (and the ones across the hole in the other part). I can make the spacing adaptive (something like the closest 1/4" to 5" apart) as I change the size of the hole, but the suppression of the ones in the middle has to be redone manually each time.
I can also see wanting to pattern in one direction then taking one of those and patterning in another (I saw someone wanting to pattern holes along a pipe and at a certain point going around as well).
Someone even posted a couple of years ago with holes of an odd spacing that they were using in an assembly to place multiple instances of a part and therefore wanted to group all those into something like a pattern so he could place all the parts "at once". (That thread included many suggestions for alternate ways to accomplish the same thing within Inventor. If only someone had thought to say "You can do it in Solidworks" back then ...)
Dan_inv09-
Don't take me wrong but it was very interesting to read your latest post. Glad to have you on the boat.

Nathan,
I know that enhansements requests get more attention if there is more interest so I will add my voice as well.
Last week I had a set of 2 crossbars with 4 components on each ent that were places at irregular distances down the length of a trailer ( about 12 sets) It would have been the ideal use of a pattern except only twice was the spacing the same.
Thank you
Jim,
The most effective way to 'add' your voice is to send feedback via the link I posted previously. I've only entered one request based on this thread. Each user response sent regarding a specific request is a point scored for that feature. The more points.... you get the idea
Cheers,
hi, I am very interested to see whether Nathan has the solution for this thread or not.
Very offen, we have to create holes around four edges of rectangular man hole. By using the pattern, we have suppress the centre holes (a lot) manually, very annoying. Just wonder who has programing solution for that.
Thanks
