Assigning colors to IV6 parts

As I've produced parts, I've assigned a certain color to different parts. I've noticed a couple of things happening:
1. When I open a part, the color I've assigned is okay.
2. When I've assembled this part to others, some of my parts do not maintain the assigned color.
3. When I backup my assembled work on CD to work somewhere else, the parts in my assy will change to "as material". So I will re-assign the correct color to the individual parts, re-save my work on CD, only to find when I open the assy again, all of my parts will revert back to "as material".

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Are you changing part colors at the assembly level or at the part level.
You should be doing the latter.

U know what? I bet all those r as designed.
But the thing is Autodesk did the wrong design on how to apply the colors. The right methodology should somehow like the following:
1. If color is assigned to certain feature, the color shall be kept same either in Part envioment ,or any level of assembly envioment unless it is re-assigned in assembly envioment.
2. If color is assigned to Part in part envioment ,the color shall be kept same in any level of assembly envioment unless it is re-assigned in assembly envioment.
3. If color is assigned to certain sub-assembly, the color shall be kept same in any higher level of assembly envioment unless it is re-assigned in assembly envioment.

Two out of three isn't bad.  The colours
assigned in an assembly are dependent on the design view used.  So two
different people may see different colours on an assembly.  The same if you
copy to a CD.  You need to make sure that the design view file comes with
it.  And your user name needs to be the same on both or you will have the
same problems with two people.

You could always active the "old name" DV as well if you can't change login
names.

I always make sure I've assigned the correct color to a part while I'm in the part environment. If I get to an assembly environment and I see colors out of whack, I exit and enter the individual part to re-assign it's color.

Sometimes it will stick - most of the time it doesn't.

I agree - but when I enter an assy and see most all applied colors messed up, I enter each part to fix the color assignment, enter the assy again and all is fine......until the next time. I don't get it.

Do you have a design view that is overriding these colors? Unless you do
you should not be seeing this.
