assembly constraints not great

I really do like IV so far, but these assembly constraints leave something
to be desired (MDT maybe).

MDT is very unique with it's vast array of assembly constraint methods. If it makes you feel any better IV's assy constraints are still more powerful than the assy constraints of most other solid modelers, IMO.

I have been wanting assembly constraints similar to
Desktop intelliconstraints, since r1.  I actually remember a post from a
few years ago about intelliconstraints, and the Inventor team member which
responded did not know about Desktop's intelliconstraints.  It is a HUGE
time saver.  I know you can put work geometry into your parts to achieve
the same thing, but why should you have to?

I agree. Wish the IV team could pick up on a few of MDT's bag of tricks.

I wish inventor would be smarter in assisting with constraints,
True I am new in inventor, but in many occasions it gives me errors and not allowing me to constraint,
Constrain doctor is a good tool in theory but so far has not been able to tell me why some constrain do not work,
Am I the only one with this problems?

We learn two different ways: by
analytically means and by pattern recognition. Analytical: reading how
constraints work don't necessarily mean we really understand. Once we get the
pattern recognition part of constraints down there's not much problem with them.
I remember posting inquires just like yours, but now I pretty much know what
will work and what won't and don't have many problems with constraints at all.
You'll get it, but the pattern recognition part is the most important in
mastering constraints.

Larry, that was a great explanation..and you didn't
even use any southern contractions..<g>
