Assembly constrain ?.

How can I make a component move inside another component, at a certain distance from a shoulder?

Thanks.

Drive constraint is one option.

Constraint Limits or Dynamic Simulation are other methods.

What version of Inventor are you running (most put this information in their signature).

In 2012

The resting position of this green part is Offset 1.5in as shown by the green dots.
If I drag the part it will go as close as .5 or as far as 1.75.

If I release the part it returns to resting position of 1.5 (in this case).

Great!  That helps alot,  I have another question,  I have an assembly that I placed into another assembly,  before I was able to move the assembly freely, but now after placing it  into the other the assembly I'm not able to move it, what do I need to do?

And is there away to make the components or parts transparency, for selecting inside surfaces?

Thanks.

Right click on the sub-assembly and turn on Flexible.
Now you should be able to move.

Set to wireframe visual style and right mouse button Select Other

or

set color of part in assembly to water or glass or polycarbonate and Select Other.

Turning off the Enabled property of a component makes it unselectable and transparent so you can easily select components that are hidden by it.
