Array along an ellipse

I am trying to array a hole around an elliptical path on a flat plate, but I am not having much success. The array ends up to be elliptical, but located somewhere else on the part. I have tried this with an irregular shaped spline with the same results. What's the trick.

You want the start point of the path to be at the hole center. Extend the
Pattern dialog (>>) and there is a Start Point selector for each direction.
You may first have to project the hole center into the sketch with the
ellipse.
