Application Options change when opening older version parts?

I haven't found much on this in the forums, and nothing recent so maybe this is something peculiar to me but it's driving me crazy...so here it goes:

These Application Options settings change not infrequently and for reasons that I cannot be certain of:

Sketch:
Enable Heads-up Display
Edit Dimension when created
Look at sketch...on...creation
Part:
No new sketch goes to x-y plane

This may happen after when I open parts from Inventor 2011 (maybe 2010) into 2012, then create a new part.  I would expect the 2012 App Options to be the master, so I don't know why a legacy part would be allowed to change those settings.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have had a similar issue several times, all since installing SP1.  For no reason that I can identify, some of my App Options revert to default-- not the same ones as the OP mentioned, but a seemingly random collection.  In my case, template & design data paths, sketch grid lines and a few others that I cannot recall.  Annoying!

I neglected to list my specs: Inventor 2012 64-bit, Build 190, Release: 2012-SP1

I'm not sure it's gotten any worse since  I installed the service pack, but it hasn't gotten better.  Admittedly, I haven't kept any kind of list tracking what I'm doing when this happens (it's Autodesk's job to test their program, not the end-users), or how often--but it's often enough that a thread is warrented.

Hi,

What happens if you export the Application option settings and reimport it. Can you able to get your setting back ?

Please send us one of your old version part file and the application options XML file for us to do some further testing at our end.

I have exported the setting and will import them back in the next time this occurs.  I cannot send you a part.  The XML file is attached here.  Thanks for looking into this.

Hi All,

yesterday i was in our Inventor customer which had the same problem.

I checked if he had the sp1 installed, he had to my surprise. Woman Surprised

I update the grafic card driver to a certified driver and checked if there was any update to do. All everything update.

I noticed that they use the Kaspersky antivirus which is excellent by offering maximum protection but as they installed the Autodesk 2012 product without even turn off is the most probably to have done a deficient installation.

So.....I TURN OFF the Kaspersky anti-virus and all the protections it offers.

Run a clean unistallation of all 2012 products (uninstalled also 2011 release)

Rebooted the machine

TURN OFF the Kaspersky anti-virus again and all the protections it offers.

Run the Inventor 2012 (Product Suite)  installation. Also install all the Service Packs he asked to install.

Run the first one as Administrator.

Rebooted the machine

Everything was solved!

Thanks for posting your findings and work-around. I installed with Symantec Endpoint still operating, which supports your findings as a root cause.

Personally, I'm unwilling to uninstall, reinstall, and reconfigure everything all over again just to fix this annoyance.  I can re-import my ApplicationOptions.xml file 10,000 times in the time it takes to redo my installation.  As such, my opinion is that Autodesk has a weak section in their code that should be reworked instead of putting the onus on the user to sink the time in a re-install. Granted they probably do tell you to turn off any antivirus on installation...
