Anyone ever attempt to do a slinky?

Take the two ends of a slinky and hold them together.
Now model that. Anyone ever try to do that?

That's a non linear coil... I don't think IV can do that. Of course I'll be
trying it now..

If we could coil along a path it would be possible I think...

I think making a slinky in R6 is "stretching" it a little, don't you? Can
you tell it's "spring" time?...sorry I posted this on the "rebound"

Come on Bill - You worked on Inventor long enough! You know it can't..
Maybe R8 will 😉

But I bet MDT can! (In fact I know it can, one of the first things I did on
MDT 2 was a helix down a helical path using surfaces)

Rory

(If I was at work now I'd have modelled it and posted it)

Check out CF.......

All done in Inventor, but it doesn't touch at both ends - To do that I'd
have to leave it computing all night, and have a processor the size of a
small village and about 20 Gig of Ram.

It's not quite a slinky, but as bendy springs go, it's a good one!

I don't see Rory's file in CF - what's the subject I'm looking for.
I assume Sean you were asking about Rory's file and not mine.

I went on a vanity trip for one moment and thought you wanted the assembly.
So it's there in the same post.

My file is attached to the same post that has the image.

But I'm not sure how Outlook Express handles multiple attachments so I'll
post it as a zip file under the name "Slinky part"

Be warned, it was done in IV7 beta as it's the only software I've got on my
home PC.

It should open (hopefully)
R7 files (even from the beta I believe) can open In R6 - I could be wrong
though where the beta is concerned but obviously the full version is
backwards compatible.

Basically, I did at part level what you probably did at assy level (but assy
level is a lot quicker!)

I created a coil of 1 revolution and circular patterned it as a feature to
create the bent spring. I assume you used a circular assy pattern

Hope this makes sense (It's Friday night in the UK and I've been drinking!)
