Anybody Else Here use Autodesk Alias?

Most of the work I do is engineering parts, but I had a client ask me to do some more "organic" shapes to fit the exterior of a vehicle.  They sent me Photoshop drawings of their idea and a 350MB scan data file of the car body.

Though it's taken me some time (actually - a lot of time) to figure out Alias, it's actually kind of enjoyable and I think I'll be able to have a real, usable workflow from Alias to Inventor when I'm done.

Just curious if anyone else here uses both programs - they are about as different as night and day!

I dabble in Alias from time to time. I made a cheesy workflow video using different ADSK products when I first played around with Alias. If you care to watch it you can go here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yp1NVBQJaE

A cool Alias and Inventor workflow vid is http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=Qs_e9XOMGYk

Completely different mindset compared to Inventor, that's for sure!! But it is a nice piece of software that is extremely flexible. Inventor would implode trying to replicate surfacing like that with such ease in creating it Smiley LOL

Kenny

Ditto.  Alias is amazing software and the Inventor workflow does work really well, but its UI is so unlike any other application on the planet, it does tend to put people off.  Totally agree with your comment that it is "actually kind of enjoyable".

If you are looking for beautiful surfaces in something closer to home, did you spot that Fusion 360 went live today?

Thanks for the video Kenny - I will watch it today.  And thanks for the info about Fusion 360 pcrawley - I was not aware of that.  Last (and only) time i checked out Fusion, I couldn't see how it would be useful to me.  Now that I've expanded my project scope a bit, it's probably worth another look.
