AMD Motherboards

Is anyone using a dual Athlon or other AMD based motherboard? If so how well does it work, does it speed up the production of 2D drawings? What motherboard are you using? TIA.

I used to work with the ASUS dual athlon board.
Great stability. Very fast.

Now I use a single Xeon, and miss my athlons.
They were great when I had to do several things at once, like
Video-processing and IV at the same time. But I do not know if IV and 2D
drawings really were faster.

My next system (both at work and private) will be AMD.

Opterons/Athlon64 will probably be great for IV.
Especially if Autodesk scompiles IV for the AMD64-version of XP.
There are exciting times ahead in the processor field 😉

I use a tyan thunder K7X S2468, and do see
a big bump up in speed when wrorking with large 2D drawings
but not much help in the 3D world.

Hi there!

Couldnt say if it is really faster but it works
smoother.

I havent seen anything in Inventor that makes it
work

on 2 CPU´s.

To help u see what a good working Dual Athlon looks
like:

I have a Boxx Technologies machine with Duel
2000+ AMDs on a TYAN motherboard. The board has duel 10/100 LAN and
a duel channel SCSI 160 controller. It's a very solid machine. And from the
bench marks on Sean Dotson's web site ran last year, it does well in
the speed department also.

The only problem I had was a couple of weeks ago
the hard drive would stop transferring data during bootup and large file
transfers in windows. A new drive with XP made things even worse. So I put the
old drive back in and flashed the bios to the newest version and I haven't had a
problem since.

System Spec's

Win 2000 Sp4

36 gig SCSI 160 HD

2 gig ram

Quadro 4 900 video

I'm using a Gigabyte GA-7DPXDW+ dual with 2400+ Athlon MP's. I bought
this board because in reviews against other dual AMD boards this one
had the highest stability. It IS rock solid and what impresses me is
that the system keeps chugging away while doing many tasks at once.
Burn a CD while working IV? NO problem.
Drawings are faster than with my old setup, with views becoming
precise seconds after creating them. This board also won my favor
because it includes an on-board Promise IDE RAID Controller, and will
handle 4 GB of memory.

Not directly related, but good information: http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/20030811/index.html

Keep in mind all the major speed increases from dual processors were on multi-threaded apps.
