All users of IBM T40P notebooks

Before connecting to the network, go to My computer > Properties > Automatic
update tab.
Disable automatic updates.

Then never load the driver offered by Microsoft It is a Raedon M9000 driver.
This is not the correct driver. You should always load a driver for the ATI
Mobility FireGL 9000. If you have the Raedon driver installed, it has to be
totally stripped from your system and the correct driver restored.

I am investigating how to do this.

But after formatting you have to install and OS and that is when the
driver creeps in.

yes but my point is you must format, install the OS, update the OS, put the video driver in from manufacturer's cd and do one update, and then leave it alone.defragment the drive, do a registry repair using norton. load IV. then no more experiments. IV should now run fine.
( I speak from experience. after religeously loading the latest nvidia drivers every few weeks the computer got so messed up IV would not even start.)

Format is a MAJOR downtime when you have to deal
with getting codes etc from Autodesk for the software locked version.........
(Edited by Moderator) I hate software locking

John, while you're at it - any recommandations for the A31P's?
They don't fly too well here...ATI Mobility FireGL 7800.

Peer,

My experience has been they changed the reg entries for the FGL7800 from R6 to R7, and the R6 settings worked much better.

Compare these settings to your own, if these are different you might want to try them.

"Driver Rating"=dword:00000002

"Inventor version tested"="6106"

"Swaptype"=dword:00000004

"Swaptype_b"=dword:00000003

"Workarounds"=dword:00000200

"Workarounds_b"=dword:1a0c0200

"Workarounds2"=dword:00000002

"Workarounds2_b"=dword:00000040
