Adding dimensions to an Assembly

Hi there,

Does anyone know if its possible to add a dimension in an assembly and animate this in Inventor studio? I know I can create a sketch in the assembly and add a dimension there but when I go to render the animation, it disappears.

I have 2 moving parts I want to add a dimension between them and show that this dimension increases over time, as they move in the animation.

Any help is appreciated.

Jonny

That is exaclty what I am after! How did you do it? I can't open the part file as it must be Inventor 2011 and i'm running 2010.

Thanks a lot.

this is done in the part environment, not sure how easy it would be to put in the assembly environment.  basically create a driven dimension of the value you are wanting to show, then in the same sketch create some text and insert that parameter, (see jpeg)  draw some arrows and extrude the arrows and text a minimal amount.

I generally use skeleton modelling techniques which would be easy to drop that part into the assembly but you may want to try adaptive parts or deriving an assembly into a part, (careful not to get cyclic dependencies though)

good luck

Stephen,
Thanls a lot for that - i've found a solution using your method. Thats a great help.
bms953,
How did you get a dimension to show up in the animation? And sketch that I add a dimension too does not show on the animation in Inventor Studio.
Thanks
Jonny

extrude the text a nominal amount, maybe 0.01mm
