Adaptive radius?

Picture a narrow flat (flexible) part with a hole in the middle and on the ends. In an assembly many are connected together to form a circle. (Think of a stretching toddler's gate across a doorway, but now attached to itself in a circle.) Based on some constraints, the pieces should be able to bend varying amounts, but all together. I've read about holes being adaptable, but I can't figure out how to make this work. Don't be afraid to "dumb it down" a little. Thanks in Advance.

Hi
I have uploaded a exsample to inventor customer files.
Maybe you can use it.

Hello,

I understood your assembly is kind of a ring made of flat bars, joint together like scissors?

Bending of those flat parts haunted me so much i had to model it. Part have to maintain the length of its neutral axis to bend correctly. I'll post a sketch model of a flat bar that can be bent by dragging one end downwards. If you'll examine the model, you'll find the formulas behind it. It simply calculates the arc length in relation to radius and bend angle.

Now, making this adaptive in context you want may be a head ache and i can't arse myself to do that. You may know that all instances of the same adaptive part are acting alike, so achieving varying bend amounts would require individually named flat bars. I have not tried skeleton modeling technique myself, but i would imagine you could find your solution from there.

Sorry i couldn't help you more,

Tero

Brian,
I'm really sorry to say that I'm using 5.3. It just didn't look like much was going on in that group and I wasn't expecting an example. So, I was unable to open the files. Are you willing to do it R5.3? Thanks and sorrry- William

Tero,
Thanks, but no files were available. Also, I'm R5.3. I probably should have said that or gone to that group. The formulas will probably be over my head. But am anxious to see how you did this. Thanks, William

Would it be possible to talk you into changing your posting name? Many of us color code
posts from Autodesk Employees and with Autodesk in your name it makes you look like you
are a Autodesk employee.

No problem at all. I thought I was going to be asked for a 'handle' or something. Didn't know that was going to show-up like that. Consider it done. - William

Probably, I did look for something like that, but did not find it.
