ActiveX Pop-up!

Hi,

Each time I open my help-file a pop-up will appear, saying that "An ActiveX
control on this page might be unsafe to interact with other parts of the
page. Do you want to allow this interaction?" (see attached screenshot)

This will pop-up at every page I view in the help file, and it is getting
very annoying!!!

I have tried virual every Internet Explorer Security Setting (turning all
the Enable), but nothing works!

How can I get this to stop?

T.

No, I have set all the security settings in IE to the lowest setting
possible, but still the ActiveX will pop-up.

OK, Thought I'd suggest the obvious.

I did find in our database a similar case linked to Inventor.

However, the Solution was for ACAD based products on older OS's but there
are some links here to other related possibilities...

http://support.autodesk.com/getDoc.asp?id=TS58957

It may or may not help but might set you off in the right direction.

Wish I could be more help, but I don't get this.

Are either of you Windows 2000 SP4? It seems like this problem popped up on
my machine after I installed SP4. I have also tried setting the IE security
settings to lowest levels and it has not helped.

Yes, we are running Windows Professional (SP4). So this could be a bug that
slipped into the OS?

It's not a SP4 issue, because that was happening to me with SP3.
I wish I could remember how I fixed the problem.

FYI:
I was told and experienced that SP4 breaks more things than it
fixes........................

I got this from the Microsoft Website:

It seems like the new version 5.0 of Comcat.dll is causing problems.
And guess what? The solution Microsoft offers is to copy an older version
(4.71) of Comcat.dll over version 5.0

Makes me sad...(no, not mad, just sad. I have giving up getting mad 😄 )

Error Message: An ActiveX Control on This Page Is Not Safe
The information in this article applies to:
a.. Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 for Windows NT 4.0
b.. Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 for Windows NT 4.0
This article was previously published under Q251365
SYMPTOMS
When you connect to a Web site, you may receive the following error message:

An ActiveX control on this page is not safe. Your current security settings
prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may
not display correctly.
CAUSE
This error message can occur if the computer contains the following file in
the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder:
Name: Comcat.dll
Version: 5.0
Size: 6 kilobytes (KB)

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
1.. Copy or extract the Comcat.dll file version 4.71 from one of the
following sources to a temporary folder:
a.. Another computer that is running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
b.. A Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 CD-ROM
c.. An Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 2 CD-ROM

2.. Start a command prompt session.
3.. Right-click the taskbar, and then click Task Manager.
4.. In Task Manager, on the Processes tab, click Explorer, and then click
End Process. This quits the graphic shell, but the command prompt is still
active.
5.. Delete or rename the Comcat.dll file in the %SystemRoot%\System32
folder.
6.. Copy the Comcat.dll file version 4.71 from the temporary folder to the
%SystemRoot%\System32 folder.
7.. From the command prompt, start Explorer.exe again by typing
explorer.exe, and then pressing ENTER.
8.. Type exit to quit the command prompt session.
9.. Start a command prompt session.
10.. Type the following command at the command prompt to register the
Comcat.dll file again:
regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\comcat.dll

This seems to be an IE issue. I found the following message on the
Microsoft News Group.

Perhaps you could check the file comcat.dll, as that seems
to be at the bottom of many ActiveX problems. For more
information, see:
