Try a different video card driver.
or use OpenGL instead of direct3d (or the other way around if using OpenGL already)

(search for "black drawing" brings you to some previous posts about it)

There is a new driver posted on the Dell support website, it's not on the
current ADSK "Certified" list. Driver was released the first part of June.
Might solve your problem. I don't get any "Cert" warnings when running under
the Direct3D mode. Panning the screen in the IDW format will get ride of the
"Diver Down" flag on your display. Unless you use a "mod'd" Nvidia driver
such as the 91.36 version, you are stuck with the Dell site listed drivers.

You can check out Mod'd drivers at: www.laptopvideo2go.com

this has existed for at least 18 months (that I have used IV 10 and 11).

It does not seem to be a priority for fixing with Adesk or Nvida.

I am running the same laptop with the same hardware and have noticed this in the past as well. I have found that by closing the file and reopening it the problem will go away. I have just updated from IV11 to 2008 but have not worked with an idw yet. I am finishing up with a project now and am interested to see if the problem still exists.

My company is also having the half black triangle problem. The one difference is we cannot pin point the problem. We have 30 new HP machines all identical, but there are only a handfull of them that have this problem.
All the machines were Ghosted so the software is all identical also. Why do some have the problem and others don't?

I never found a permanent solution to the problem, but when we were on IV11 this happened to a few people and the only thing I found that worked was to switch back to the model and pan until nothing is visible in the view. Switch back to the idw and the triangle is gone. Not sure why it works.

I noticed this previously on a machines running the /3GB option in XP Pro. The problem occured in Direct3D but not in OpenGL for me. The problem occured with both FireGL V3100 and Quadro FX1500 cards and various driver flavors.

I am not sure if the problem still exists in 2008 and newer as I have since upgraded to Vista Enterprise 64.

Other posters mentioned they are using XP 64. So my /3GB theory does not hold water there. But as I mentioned, the problem for me at least has disappeared with IV2008 / Vista64.
