A sad day for Inventor disks

Well I finally did it, I sent almost all of our old IV disks through the
shredder and it almost brought a tear to my eye :~( I kept back one each of
IV7 and up just in case but all the others went to the landfill.

I could not bring myself to shred the original "vers 1" Inventor box and
disk...who knows it might be worth some real money on eee baay in a few
years

I can sense the courage it took and the despair you are feeling.

I did the same a few years back with MDT from the time it was known as Designer. Kept one copy each release also.

Today I have NO IDEA where they got to, someone must have trashed them while I was on Vacation or by accident. I was in a state of depression for weeks.

Hey, maybe I should try to sell my old Kurta drawing tablet
and my original Amiga Credit Card on Ebay 😉

I don't see why you couldn't give away the media if you didn't pass on the
serial numbers.

Commercial Resellers cannot sell to the educational community.... When we
could, the resellers did a great job in getting Autodesk product into
educational. Today, they are sold to schools by exclusive educational
resellers, who in many parts of the country, are "box movers" offering
little or no followup or support.

Resellers have tried to get Autodesk to go back to the original contract, to
no avail. Most of us resellers end up providing "free" support to the
schools as a community service.....

The scholl that I mentor Robotics for last year had just order IV from an Ed. reseller. Until I got there they had no idea that they had actually bought all Pro seats or even what the difference was.

They have Inventor at the high school my son goes to here in Tennessee. My son quickly became the class guru from the first day. The teacher had the 3 day training. My son has been modeling for me for over 3 years. He's in the 11th grade this year.

The educational resellers should be responsible for ensuring the software is installed and used properly and the teachers are more than adequatly trained to teach the material.

I know you were 8^)

He actually has a ball using it and he wants to go to college to be an engineer.

I told him I'm paying to help pay his way to college, but I don't think thats gonna happen (paying some of his own way). He bought a PSP this summer and got a video iPod last week.

Kudos to him!

Maybe he should look into something like the local
community college has here.

Sounds like he's way ahead of the game
anyway......

Dual Credit and Concurrent Enrollment

face=Arial size=2>

Earn college credit while
you are still in high school.

The difference between dual credit and
concurrent enrollment is:

  • Dual credit: the student earns both high school
    and college credit.

  • Concurrent credit: the student earns college
    credit only.

I am about to start teaching my eight year old by having him model the pine wood derby car we are going to make. He loves playing with my space mouse when I am working at home.

I view it as putting him in training for the FIRST Robotics team when he hits high school.

Todd,

Did you perchance speak with the FIRST coach at AU? The guy who had the 32
high school kids with him...

Wow... First he barely knew what Inventor was. Then went on to say that
they modeled the whole robot in AutoCAD. OK. I mentioned 3D and he stated
that all anyone needed to work in his area (Indiana I think) was AutoCAD.
"All Delphi uses is AutoCAD". I thought it rude to embarrass him in front
of his students by correcting him.

I felt so bad for the 2 high school kids standing there with this guy who
was so far out of the loop it wasn't funny. These kids will have zero 3D
experience when the go to college. He's really doing them a disservice.

When I mentioned that they should look into IV as many of the FIRST parts
were already modeled, he replied "That's cheating...". At this point I
shook my head and walked away.
