A really neat trick (well I think so)

You have a large assembly - a chassis for example - and a subcontractor is wanting a neutral format of just a few critical chassis
members to check that their bits will fit. How do you do this without creating another dummy assembly file?

Create new part, promote as surfaces the bits you want, save copy as SAT, don't save changes to the part.

Easy.

Now here's the good bit, if you want these members to be rigid so that they can't move around, effectively a single "derived
component", fire up MDT, insert ACIS file, save as STEP and bingo, a single rigid body. Be careful about disjoint bodies though, it
could cause problems in some CAD systems.
