5.3 to 6 transition

How easy is it to go from being proficient on Inventor 5.3 to Inventor 6? We are not interested in attending training courses, so will i still b able to use version 6 to the same standard as 5.3 and then learn the new features as we go along?

We have no problems at the moment, but I am under the impression that some of the version 6 features will be useful but not necessary essential. Basically, is 6 pretty much the same as 5.3 and predecessors with just more features added to it, or is it a quantum leap in the program that will b difficult to come to terms with without training?

The hardest thing is recognizing the new
icons.  That throws even the best Inventor users off.  They have
changes the user interface in a bunch of places but basically it the same
Inventor with lots of new features.  You should do fine.  Watch this
group and you'll gradually learn about the new features.

The biggest problem will be finding things which were moved.
Fortunately, these are few. There are also some new things which are
buried like the Work Feature Repeat command or little things like the
ability to place work planes on the ends and middles of arcs, splines etc.

The most notable items which were moved are the iPart Author and
iFeature Extract (now in the menu) and Taper in Extrude (now in another
Tab).

For general modeling, you should have no problem. If you want to work
with the new surfacing capability, you might want to consider some
training otherwise just try using the help system or ask questions to
this newsgroup.

One can find a 50 page white paper,Project Files and Concurrent Design, on the IV6 disk. You need to read it ZZZZzzzz.
