a sketch in the plane where I want to have the dimension doesn't
work! I
have projected the desired project-geometry but I get an
errormessage [they
call it Inventor tip?] saying: cannot constrain or
dimension reference of
fixed geometry.
Someone please help.. why can't I seem to add this
measurement to my
parameters?? In helpfiles I can only find dimesions in 2D
sketches, does
this mean that is the -only- place where I can dimension and
deduce
parameters?

Have you tried adding the line, but only
constraining one endpoint.
Then add a driven dimension and finally
constrain the other endpoint.
This should allow you to use the driven
dimension as a parameter.

I had tried that before I posted.. but it gave me
the same 'error' still.
BUT after your suggestion I thought I'd try again
and now I found out that somehow it -won't work- if I draw the line from
endpoint to endpoint [giving the error] and it DOES work if I draw the line
from endpoint to midpoint [giving me the option to add a driven dimension] AND
That will do just fine for me!
so Thanx a lot!

I've considered making a sketch there, constraining it to the 3D
