2560x1440 Issue / Performance problem

Inventor 2013 (from BDS Ultimate)

Windows 7 x64. SP1

8MB

GTX 560 2MB card, latest 327.23 drivers

I upgraded to an ASUS PB278Q monitor and set the resolution to 2560x1440.

--Inventor opens to Welcome screen, the toolbar "quivers", and Inventor closes after about 30 seconds.

--If I set resolution back to 1600x1200, Inventor runs.  If I then reset the resolution to 2560x1440 while Inventor is open, close it, and run Inventor again, it works....sort of.

I can deal with the above workaround, but here is the bigger problem (not sure if they are even related):

--Pan does not work--either the middle button, from the toolbar, or from the Viewcube menu

--Viewcube works sporadically--it does not highlight when passed over.  If I dbl-click on a side, that works.

--CPU is pegged, Inventor is quite sluggish.

--3DConnexion Space Navigator works fine.

--Inventor Fusion works fine.  Mouse buttons/pan work as they should.

--Drawing doesn't matter--same with new drawing or old.

--Compatibility mode, or any other mode, has no effect.

--Reinstalled Inventor, no effect.  All SP's, etc. applied.

--Checked to see what is happening with Process Monitor and found that there seems to be an endless loop of the following processes:

I notice a similar pattern in Inventor Fusion, but it doesn't repeat endlessly as it does in Inventor.

I don't think it is the font--I switched to Arial and the path in the processes showed Arial.

Any ideas?

Scott

Are you using a DVI connection or a HDMI cable?

I'm using a DVI-D duallink cable.  When I first got the monitor, all I had was an HDMI cable which did limit the resolution to 1920x1200 (limitation of the GTX 560).

Could be wrong, but I don't think the shuddering toolbar/crash problem has anything to do with the endlessly looping processes/broken pan & viewcube/maxed out CPU problem.  If I drop back to a lower resolution, the problems are still there.

I've searched the groups and the closest I can find to this is dennishoegh's problem here:

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Inventor-General/Inventor-2013-extremley-slow-in-IDW-s/m-p/3591066#M44...

Doesn't look like this ever got resolved.

If we refer to Wiki and Nvidia it doesn't seam to be hardware related.

Sometimes you just need a good old reboot.

I solved my problem.  It was so easy--all I had to do was reinstall Windows on a new drive, scrounge around for driver and BIOS updates, reinstall every program I have, and wait through countless hours of Windows updates and Service Packs (making sure to check Inventor after each to be sure it was ok).

And now it works.  Sometimes the nuclear option is the best.
