Issue with sketch flipping unexpectedly in derived part

Hello everyone

I use the derive function at work all the time when drawing parts off master sketches, with a centre sketch and parts drawn on work planes at set geometry points, so that I can just ground and root. I make my right hand part, then derive and mirror the original part to create my left hand (including the geometry and original sketch in the derive process) . Normally I don't have any issues but lately I've had a few stubborn parts where if I derive this part and mirror it about the centre plane, the sketch blocks inside the derived part flip upside randomly, and I can't seem to fix this. I've been drawing parts like this for years without issue.

Any ideas?

Pack and go of the two files and master sketch is attached, thanks

Do you really need to mirror the sketch?

I usually just mirror the solid.

Sort of besides the point, there's no reason for the sketch to be flipping about a different axis

See if you get different results by toggling this:

If your derive is already created you can always right-click the derived feature to find that setting:

Yes I've given that a try with no luck

If sketch is not dimension or constrain properly, it will move.

Difficult to get to work 100%.

Lot's of time to find and fix when it doesn't work.

Mirror solid works 100%.

It is fully dimensioned and constrained

Fully doesn't mean "properly".

The fact that it moved, it's not done "properly".

"Properly" means IV will understand and won't flip dimension or position.

If you need the sketch then you'll need to dimension it different to prevent flipping.

If you don't need it, don't waste your time chasing a problem you don't need.

With sketch blocks, I don't know where to start to fix it.

It is properly constraint and dimensioned, and the derive process shouldn't cause any issues as it should be merely taking the current geometry and flipping it about the appropriate axis, and this process doesn't carry over constraints or dimensions, they are what they were in the original. You'll also see it's only the blocks that have flipped

Might be worth your time taking a look at the pack & go files to see the original sketch and the derived version. I've been doing this process for 10+ years at this company without issue, I'm more interested if this is a bug in the current release

Hi Matt,

I believe this is a known issue on 2023.2. It should have been fixed on 2023.3. 2023.3.1 is just released. Please install it and the issue will go away.

Many thanks!
