How to modify an existing bolt

I want to insert from content center a screw and modify it, prolong it's thread and more.

How can i do that?

In a part file i cannot insert parts from content center, should i make an assembly? and then?

Start new part file.

Finish sketch.

Use Derive and select the bolt.

You can then modify.

Otherwise open the bolt save as a new part number in your project.

Then open and edit.

Making an assembly of the bolt will only allow you to reduce it's size by cutting at the assembly level, although some increase is achievable with move face.

The trick ids to insert the part into an assembly using the 'custom' option.

Here's a post from Chris Benner that explains a similar workflow.

I'll second Paul's comment.

The second option - if you intend using the new-length bolt again in other designs - is to edit the CC table, copy the row of the nearest size bolt, paste it back in and adjust the length.  That way you always have it available - it's not something you have to design as a custom part every time you want it.
