How can i link inventor projects to the cloud?

Im almost to the point where i am going to be building a PC for CAD but i still need to use my laptop to do CAD work in class. Is there a way to seamlessly link file updates without having to transfer new files?

You can try Autodesk drive:

Otherwise, unless you are using vault with amazon AWS or something like, the cloud is not recommended for Inventor. I've seen a lot of issues on these forums related to it. 

VPN is a better solution, but that won't work for school. 

I've never done the cloud route, so there may be other people with better advice.

OneDrive works okay, there are occasionally issues but I do it for work periodically so study use should be fine. Just set your project up to save content centre files to a specified foler in your project (NOT to default C:\ location)

I've seen people complain about onedrive making files read-only and confusing Inventor, is that an issue you have experienced?

No, it's been fine for the most part. The only issue has been a particular heavily ilogicdriven assembly caused errors when ilogic-copied. It contained i-parts and these seemed to be the cause. It was a very preliminary design and I decided to place them in a compressed folder and investigate at a later date (which hasn't arrived).

It does map directly to a C:\ folder and I think this is the key.

Hi Andrew,

At the moment, Inventor is not able to make sense of cloud path. The best approach to work with cloud storage is to use Fusion Team. If you use any other cloud drive, you may want to map the location to a logical drive. From Inventor's perspective, it interacts with the logical drive unaware of what is happening on the cloud side.

The other issues is as far as I'm aware there isn't a check out/check in workflow. That means if you are working collaboratively with anyone you need set clear boundaries between parts of the project

Hi! Yes, that is a great point. Most file-based CAD systems require a PDM system to help manage file ownership. To work collaboratively using Inventor, it is better to use Vault.

Cloud storage can be used also. But, you do need to have good design process and practice to ensure nobody step on other users' toe. Also, on a regular basis, it is better to run a Update Design task via Task Scheduler to ensure everything is up-to-date.
