Flat Pattern of Round Stock

I searched the IV8 discussion group archives, but found no answer.

Can round bar stock be flattened?? Can i trick IV to slice the piece first, then flatten??

I'm also looking for that solution to develop flat layouts from round stock.  All links are currently broken, would be thrilled to hear an update.
