MakeIKB only command line?

While reading WikiHelp, the only entry for using MakeIKB.exe was a command line option.

Does anyone know if there is MakeIKB functionality built in ETO Studio R2 where I do not have to use the command line?  If not, are there any plans to make this an option from ETO Studio?

Hi Chris,

MakeIKB utility is not integrated into Visual Studio yet. The utility can be involved from the Intent command window.

Something you may consider as a workaround: add the command into Tools menu of VS or even add a button to one of the toolbars. For simplicity, I will assume the Designs to process are in "C:\1\Design Files" folder and IKB file should be written to "C:\1\IKB"

1. In Visual Studio, select Tools\External Tools... command:

2. Click Add and specify the options as below:

Title: MakeIKB

Command: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor ETO Components 2013\Bin\MakeIKB.exe

Arguments: "C:\1\IKB\mybinary.ikb" /host inventor /l "C:\1\Design Files"

Initial directory: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor ETO Components 2013\Bin\

Check "Use Output window"

[Please note that the sequential tool number is 6 in that case]

3. Test: Invoke Tools\MakeIKB command from the VS

The output ot the MakeIKB will be in output Window of Visual Studio:

4. Add the same command to ETO Toolbar.

Add Command...

Tools

External Command 6

The command will appear on Intent toolbar:

This is a nice workaround.  Do you know if there are any plans to incorporate the MakeIKB functionality into ETO Studio?

Hi Chris,

We do have plans to make tighter integration of MakeIKB and other tools into Visual Studio.
Thank you,
