We are trying to use the ETO-VS integration for 2013. We have a project with approx 6000 design files in it. When we open the project in VS, it takes roughly 12 minutes to load the project. Any one else having this type of issue on larger projects? Any workarounds out there?
Our machines have fast SSD's, 16GB RAM, and are less than one year old (top of the line).
Thanks,
George.
George,
Does it take that much time every time you load the project? Or just the first time you create it?
Mike,
I loaded the project twice. The first time took 13 min 10 secs to load. The second time took 13 min 8 secs to load.
After the second time I saved the solution upon exiting Visual Studio. The next time that I opened the project it took around 1 min to load.
While doing further testing, I have run into a very troublesome issue. It is taking around 43 secs to save any iks file after making a change.
Also, it took close to 2 min to load the project after making changes, saving, and closing it.
Chris,
When you say "load", are you including the Import Inventor Project command? That will be slower than opening a saved Visual Studio solution.
Can you give some details about the kind of changes that cause the solution to take two minutes to load?
Are you working on the same project as George? If not, how many design files are in your project?
Mike,
Yes, I am working on the same project that George is.
Here are the steps that I took to initially open the designs and create the project:
After saving the project, it is taking between 1 - 2 min to open the solution.
If I make any change at all to the iks file then it takes 45 sec to save.(ex. Add a rule to the iks.) After making this change and closing the project, it is taking close to 2 min to reload the project.
Do you have Inventor running and connected to Visual Studio while you are saving the .iks files? If so, it will take time to update Inventor with the changes.
No, this is all done without Inventor being loaded.
Chris,
I'm thinking that this step:
4.Opened the vb.sln (The initial time took over 13 min.)
took a long time because it was scanning the directory for the files that you moved in step 3. It very likely wouldn't take that long if you didn't have to move the files.
Can you post your .ipj file? It also might help to have a directory listing. If you can, please open a Windows command prompt, cd to the directory of your .ipj file (assuming everything is under there) and enter the command:
dir /s >vb_file_list.txt
and post the listing.
I would rather not publicly post the items. Is there an e-mail address that I can send this info to?
Chris,
I sent you an email address in a private message.
